cookie, also known as a web cookiebrowser cookie, and HTTP cookie
is a piece of text stored on a users computer
 by their web browser. 
A cookie can be used for authentication, storing site preferences
shopping chart contents, the identifier for a server-based session 
 or anything else that can be accomplished through storing text data.

Cookies can be deposited without your explicit knowledge
or consent. It is harmless in and of themselves,
makes them potentially dangerous

The presence of spyware is typically hidden from the user,
 and can be difficult to detect. 
Web bugs which are small images or HTML
code hidden within an e-mail message.
When you opens an infected e-mail,
information is sent back to the source of the bug.
Computer monitoring software
the most invasive and dangerous type of spyware.
This programs record every activity and keystroke made on your
computer system.

Running anti-spyware software has become a widely
 recognized element of computer security 
 practices for computers, especially those running Microsoft Windows.
 A number of jurisdictions have passed anti-spyware laws,
 which usually target any software that is surreptitiously
 installed to control a user's computer.
